Korea to bring forward separate storage of resident registration numbers and linked information to January
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said on Thursday it is seeking to revise a public notice to move up the start date for separate storage of resident registration numbers and linked information (CI) by four months. It reported a revision to standards on CI generation and processing at a full commission meeting. The change would move the start date to Jan. 1 from May 1, 2027. The commission cited recent leak incidents involving both items.

MSIT and Broadcast Media Commission launch AI and media policy council
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcast Media Communications Commission will jointly respond on artificial intelligence, media and digital regulation, aiming to reduce policy gaps as industry boundaries blur. The two agencies launched a policy council in Seoul on Tuesday. Cooperation will cover AI, media and OTT services, and digital regulation and user protection. They also plan to share parts of broadcast video AI training datasets via MSIT\'s AI Hub for research and education.

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said on Thursday it received a plan to boost shared growth and vitality in the home shopping sector. It aims to ease regulatory burdens on the industry and improve the effectiveness of support for small and medium-sized enterprises. The commission discussed the plan at its 12th plenary meeting for 2026 and set out six tasks, including changes to product scheduling rules, a review of a dedicated data home shopping channel, stronger policy adjustment in carriage-fee negotiations, simplified reapproval checks and revisions to screen-ratio rules for data home shopping.
