Broadcast Media Communications Commission to run 2026 Digital Ethics Week to promote AI ethics principles

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission and the National Information Society Agency will run 2026 Digital Ethics Week through July 26, themed \"With AI, with ethics.\" The organisers prepared participatory online and offline programs to help people experience and practise AI ethics in daily life and online. Offline events will be held across workplaces, travel hubs, leisure spaces and schools, including quizzes, mission activities and education for school managers.

Revised network act enforcement decree approved at cabinet meeting, fines up to 1 billion won for spreading false information

South Korea’s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said on Tuesday a partial revision to the enforcement decree of the Information and Communications Network Act passed a cabinet meeting. The decree defines large information and communications service providers as those with at least 1 million daily average users over the prior three months and requires self-regulatory policies and transparency reports. It also sets criteria for punitive damages claims and allows fines of up to 1 billion won for repeated distribution of court-confirmed illegal false information.

Broadcast Media Communications Commission launches online I-PIN issuance for teens 14 and older

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said on June 30 it will fully implement online issuance of I-PINs for teenagers aged 14 and older. It is working with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, a public MyData expansion task force, KAIT and three I-PIN issuers including NICE Information Service, Seoul Credit Rating and Korea Credit Bureau. The change allows immediate online issuance with legal guardian consent even without a phone in the teen’s name.
