South Korea's Broadcast Media Communications Commission said it held the "2026 Broadcasting Media AI Innovation Talent Development Seminar" in Seoul on Thursday with the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA).
The seminar introduced an AI action-sequence production case from the SBS drama "Kim Manager." The production team created about 3 minutes of action scenes using AI without actual filming. It shared the production process from planning to video generation and editing.
A case study on using generative AI in the MBC entertainment show "Rookie Director Kim Yeon-kyung," selected last year for the commission's broadcast programme production support, was also presented. It highlighted how generative AI was used in planning and production of a sports entertainment programme to make up for limitations in filming.
Participants also shared cases of applying AI to broadcasting services and work processes.
KBS presented cases of applying AI technology to improve broadcast accessibility, including real-time AI subtitles and on-screen audio description, centred on coverage of the 2026 North America World Cup.
MBC introduced cases of producing and transmitting radio news using AI voice and automating articles. SBS presented a case of using an AI remover that deletes specific subjects from video to automate repetitive computer graphics (CG) work.
Oh Soon-young (오순영), an Amazon Web Services (AWS) principal who delivered the keynote address, presented under the theme "In the AI era, what should broadcasting media workers prepare for?" She covered technology changes, trends in industrial application and capabilities required of broadcasting media personnel.
The event also included demonstrations of broadcasting production equipment from ARRI, Canon, Sony and Panasonic, along with AI content production platform "Acron (Morpheus Studio)" and digital twin solution "ANNX (EMX)."
Cheon Ji-hyun (천지현), director-general of the commission's Broadcasting Media Promotion Bureau, said she hopes the seminar will help raise broadcasting media workers' understanding of AI technology and production capabilities, and serve as an opportunity to actively push the broadcasting industry's AI transition.
