The Broadcast Media Communications Commission on Thursday held its 29th plenary meeting and elected standing commissioner Ko Min-su (고민수) as its first vice chair.
Ko, who was born in 1970, graduated from Yonsei University with a law degree and earned a master's and doctoral degree in law at the same university. He worked as a reporter at JTV Jeonju Broadcasting and held posts at the secretariat of the Korea Broadcasting Commission and the government’s support group for broadcasting and telecommunications convergence promotion under the Office for Government Policy Coordination. He later served as a professor of law at Gangneung-Wonju National University and as a professor in the Department of Policy Studies at Kangwon National University.
He served as a member of the Korea Communications Commission’s expert panel for revitalising the broadcast advertising industry, as a member of its integrity ombudsman panel, and as a member of the Regional Broadcasting Development Committee. He was appointed in April as a standing commissioner at the Broadcast Media Communications Commission.
Ko’s term as vice chair runs from Thursday until March 31, 2029. Ko said he would seek to advance the broadcasting, media and communications sector and do his best to protect public rights and interests based on his varied experience and expertise.
The commission, which has a legally mandated quota of 7 members, is operating with 6 members, including Chair Kim Jong-cheol (김종철) and Ko, along with commissioners Ryu Shin-hwan (류신환), Yoon Sung-ok (윤성옥), Lee Sang-geun (이상근) and Choi Soo-young (최수영). One standing commissioner seat allocated to a nominee recommended by the People Power Party is currently vacant.
