KT Cloud, LS Electric expand cooperation on AI data centre infrastructure

KT Cloud said on Wednesday it will expand cooperation with LS Electric on AI data centre business. It said the partners will broaden collaboration on modular data centre technology and work to build a supply system for key power equipment. The agreement aims to strengthen capabilities to build modular data centres optimised for next-generation AI infrastructure and to secure a stable supply of major power facilities as power demand and project 규모 grow rapidly.

MSIT to hold AI, digital challenge to tackle social problems

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency will hold a 2026 challenge to address social problems such as climate disasters and issues affecting regions and youth using AI and digital technology. The contest has service development and idea discovery tracks. Participants can apply online until Sept. 30. The ministry will support the cost of using one of Naver, NHN or KT cloud services and award 10 finalists, with total prizes of 28 million won.

Mobile carriers shift CAPEX focus from networks to AI data centres

South Korea’s three mobile carriers are shifting capital spending away from base stations and other traditional networks toward AI infrastructure as 5G rollout stabilises and demand for AI data centres rises. SK Telecom and KT cut network-focused CAPEX in the first half, while LG Uplus increased spending tied to its Paju AI data centre. The companies are rolling out expansion plans and reporting rising AI data centre revenue, while maintaining some network investment for 5G standalone and future 6G preparation.
