KT Cloud said on Sept. 28 it will take part in the Gunsan AI data centre (AIDC) project being promoted by integrated energy company SGC Energy in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province.
The Gunsan AI data centre aims to begin construction of a 60-megawatt first-phase modular data centre by the end of this year and target full-scale operations in the first quarter of 2028. SGC Energy plans to expand the project in stages to a total capacity of 300 megawatts in line with future market demand.
KT Cloud will participate in the project as a DBO (Design·Build·Operate) partner. It plans to carry out overall work for building and operating the AI data centre, including design consulting, major equipment works (MEP), stability and operational verification (commissioning), and eventual operations.
Hyundai Engineering will serve as a joint contractor, carrying out architecture, civil engineering, facilities, landscaping and telecommunications work, and handling some power and cooling equipment. KT Cloud will introduce a 'modular·skid solution' and push ahead with building an AI data centre based on liquid cooling.
KT Cloud will apply an 'AI-ready' specialised design based on liquid cooling across all floors at the Gunsan AIDC to support Nvidia’s next-generation AI accelerator, Vera Rubin. It plans to pre-emptively design power and cooling infrastructure to reflect the high-heat and high-density characteristics of next-generation AI accelerators. It also plans to support customers so they can configure infrastructure quickly and flexibly to match the AI systems they adopt.
Kim Bong-kyun (김봉균), chief executive of KT Cloud, said the Gunsan AI data centre is a key project to supply optimal infrastructure when customers require it, in line with rapidly rising demand for AI infrastructure. He said the company will use capabilities accumulated across data centre construction and operations to secure quality and stability for large-scale AIDCs and continue expanding the supply base for AIDCs, including outside the Seoul metropolitan area.
