KT Cloud said on June 29 it has completed a public cloud build applying its self-developed next-generation cloud platform, the KT Cloud Platform (kt cloud PLATFORM).

The company said the platform is designed to run virtual servers (VM) and containers in a single environment. It applies an OpenStack architecture based on Kubernetes, a cloud standard technology, enabling flexible resource deployment, scaling and operations management.

With the public cloud build, public institutions can sequentially use a cloud environment linking a long-distance multi-region setup (Seoul to Gyeongbuk, about 200 km) and a short-distance multi-AZ setup (Yongsan to Mokdong, about 30 km).

Based on that, services can be operated stably through other regions and AZs even if a specific data centre or system fails. It can also effectively meet disaster recovery (DR) and high-availability requirements demanded by national and public institutions.

It also provides infrastructure for the use of generative AI. AI training and inference can be used on a single platform, and required resources can be flexibly scaled depending on usage changes. Public institutions can develop and operate various AI services, including generative AI, in a secure cloud environment that has obtained CSAP certification.

KT Cloud plans to expand services based on the KT Cloud Platform to the private sector as well, based on its public cloud build experience. It plans to sequentially introduce cloud services for corporate customers based on technological capabilities and operations experience verified in the public cloud environment, and to support cloud migration and AI use across various industries.

Kim Bong-kyun (김봉균), CEO of KT Cloud, said the public cloud build based on the KT Cloud Platform was a meaningful achievement that enhanced the stability and scalability of public cloud infrastructure based on its own technology. He said the company would support cloud migration and AI use by public institutions and, based on that, expand application of the platform to the private sector.
