Tesla begins Cybercab road tests in Austin with no steering wheel or pedals
Tesla has begun road tests in Austin, Texas, of a Cybercab prototype with no steering wheel or pedals. The company posted a 27-second video on X showing a safety monitor seated on the right. While the idea is not new, previous test vehicles seen on public roads had conventional controls. Questions remain over emergency response and how a safety monitor can control the vehicle, particularly if Tesla sells it to individuals.

Slate switches to Gotion LFP battery from SK On NMC, keeps price and boosts range
U.S. electric vehicle startup Slate has switched the battery for its electric pickup truck due for release this year from a nickel-cobalt-manganese (NMC) chemistry to lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and changed its supplier from SK On to Gotion. The company plans to use LFP packs made at Gotion’s Illinois plant, citing cost and supply-chain considerations. Slate set the base price at $24,950 and said range rises to 205 miles, while peak output falls to 181 horsepower.

Tesla launches free lifetime Supercharging contest, picks 9 winners worldwide
Tesla has launched a global event offering free Supercharging for as long as winners own their vehicles, selecting only nine people worldwide. Winners will be chosen in three regions, with China excluded and some countries unable to participate. The contest ranks drivers by longest continuous travel between Supercharger sites in 24 hours, most unique sites visited this year and most energy charged. Some owners, employees and ride-hailing or delivery users are excluded.
