Samsung to roll out AI across mobile, TVs and appliances, targets 400 million AI-enabled devices a year

Samsung Electronics declared at CES 2026 it will embed AI in up to 400 million devices annually to usher in what it called an era of AI everyday companions. Executive Vice President Roh Tae-moon presented three core strategies: sustaining AI-driven innovation, strengthening core competitiveness through technology advances and expanding investment for the future. The company plans to apply AI broadly across mobile, TVs and home appliances and step up investment in air conditioning, automotive, medical technology and robots.

Shinhan Financial holds hero awards with Korean National Police Agency

Shinhan Financial Group said it held the fifth Common People's Economy Guardian Hero Awards with the Korean National Police Agency at the agency’s Eoullim Madang in Seoul on Jan. 6. The annual event is part of a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2021 to eradicate livelihood financial crimes. Ten people were selected, including five police officers and five citizens. Each received recognition and 3 million won in prize money.

KOSPI settles above 4,500 for first time, third straight record close

South Korea’s KOSPI climbed for a third straight day on Jan. 6 and broke above the 4,500 mark for the first time. The benchmark index ended 67.96 points higher at 4,525.48. After first topping 4,300 on Jan. 2 and surpassing 4,400 a day earlier, it cleared 4,500 within a day. The KOSPI opened lower and briefly fell below 4,400 before turning higher. The Kosdaq fell 1.53 points to 955.97.
