Kakao Entertainment’s mutual growth foundation, the Kakao Creation Foundation, will sharply expand support to help webtoon creators secure stable working environments. The move aims to strengthen a sustainable content ecosystem by providing practical space support to creators, described as the foundation of the content industry.
Kakao Entertainment said on Wednesday the Kakao Creation Foundation and the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency signed an agreement on June 17 at the Webtoon Convergence Center to expand the “creation workspace support project.”
The two organisations have supported rental costs for creation workspaces since signing an agreement in 2024, addressing what they describe as webtoon artists’ biggest practical burden. After the Kakao Creation Foundation expanded the scale of support for three consecutive years, 72 teams and 250 people will benefit this year, 158 percent of last year’s level. Recipients will be finally selected through a public call and screening.
The workspace support is producing results in the field, the article said. Artists who received support recorded outcomes including new serialisations, overseas expansion and intellectual property expansion. A resident studio at the Webtoon Convergence Center, Green Giraffe, started as a small team of 3 to 4 people but used the support as a stepping stone to release multiple hit titles. It then expanded into serialisations in 10 countries overseas, including the United States, Japan and France, and succeeded in converting into a corporation last year. The article described it as a case where building a stable base for self-reliance led to company-style growth.
The Kakao Creation Foundation plans to continue expanding its support system so creators can sustain their work in stable conditions. A foundation official said, “For creators to consistently produce good works, a stable working environment is as important as creative capability.” The official added, “We will continue to expand support that can be felt on the ground through cooperation with the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency and create an environment where creators can grow at the centre of the industry.”
