Broadcast Media Communications Commission renews SBS M&C licence for 5 years
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission on July 29 approved a five-year licence renewal for SBS M&C, a terrestrial TV ad sales agency. The commission said an external panel of 10 experts gave SBS M&C 82.384 points, above the 70-point threshold. It imposed five conditions, including steps to prevent shareholder ownership-limit violations and support for regional and smaller broadcasters\' ad sales. Members also discussed flexibly operating renewal rules as the ad market changes.

Korean radio squeezed by global platforms, calls grow for integrated audio platform
As the influence of global platforms such as YouTube and Spotify spreads into South Korea’s audio market, participants at a National Assembly seminar called for an integrated platform to unify radio content and data that are currently split by broadcaster. They urged integrating production and digital capabilities and building a data-driven industry base to improve listener access. Speakers also called for legalising digital radio access rights and overhauling advertising rules.

Korea commission steps up response to false manipulated information, boosts platform accountability
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission plans to upgrade its response system to false and manipulated information under a revised information network law. It will push to strengthen accountability for large platforms and seek to set up a transparency centre to support fact-checking. The commission also plans to introduce labelling for online AI-generated content and raise transparency around recommendation algorithms. It is reviewing measures to regulate youth SNS use and preparing pay-TV regulatory changes and other media policy steps.
