Europe warns of battery supply chain risk with heavy reliance on imported materials
Europe is using batteries as a core technology for energy, industry and defence, but its heavy dependence on overseas sources for key materials is creating supply chain vulnerabilities, a report said. The Backbone Coalition warned that domestic production of essential inputs is far below demand, leaving Europe exposed to geopolitical conflict or supply disruptions. It urged the European Union to rapidly expand support over the next three years and broaden it across the battery value chain.

Sparrow targets Middle East software supply chain security, shares safe AI coding strategy at local event
Application security company Sparrow said it took part in GISEC 2026 in Dubai from Sept. 16 and shared ways to strengthen software supply chain security, from code to SBOM. The company said it will use the event to speed up its push into the Middle East security market. It presented methods to write secure code by connecting Sparrow MCP to Cursor and Claude Code.

Data centers can be built quickly, but additions to power plants and transmission networks are lagging, creating a need for large extra investment. Moody’s estimates about $110 billion is required for new generation to meet demand, with annual consumption projected to reach 426 TWh by 2030. Some regions have paused new projects or tightened rules.
