South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission on Tuesday approved appointments of new members to seven statutory committees related to broadcasting, including panels on viewer rights, universal access, dispute mediation and market competition assessment. It also received a report on a partial revision to a public notice to extend a temporary grace period for outsourcing programming ratios at regional MBC and regional private broadcasters, with the current grace period set to expire at the end of next month.

The Broadcasting Media Telecommunications Commission held a meeting with local broadcasters in Gwangju and the Jeolla region on May 18 at the Gwangju Media Center. Five broadcasters attended to discuss ways to strengthen public service functions and competitiveness amid rapid changes in the media environment. Executives said they faced management difficulties due to a slump in the broadcast advertising market and called for deregulation and budget support from the government.
