The Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Broadcasting and Communications Agency (KCA) said on Tuesday they have selected 11 domestic broadcast content titles using AI technology for an overseas distribution support programme.
The selected works will be introduced to overseas investors at the Asia Media & Entertainment Content Market, the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), to be held in Singapore on Dec. 3-5.
Four AI-based production support titles and seven AI-assisted planning programmes were selected. The production support titles include MBC's "Rookie Director Kim Yeon-kyung", Studio Prism's "How to Travel Like a Real Man", Jwonder's "Korean Desk: The Manila File" and Most267's "Law of the Line".
"Rookie Director Kim Yeon-kyung" uses AI de-aging technology that transforms the cast's faces into their childhood appearance. "How to Travel Like a Real Man" uses text-to-image generation technology for pre-shoot demonstrations. "Korean Desk: The Manila File" uses generative effects technology to visualise a suspect's movement route and the process of tracking closed-circuit (CC)TV footage.
Seven titles were selected for a showcase, including "Unforgettable Duet 2", "Gourmet Chronicles: Rewriting Taste", "Reconstructing No-Bot Relationships", "Emerald City", "Where Are We Going? Inkigayo!", "Monster-like and Romantic", and CJ ENM's "Forget Me Not".
Among them, "Gourmet Chronicles: Rewriting Taste" uses AI document-reading technology to analyse classical Chinese characters and old Korean manuscripts to recreate food from the past. "Where Are We Going? Inkigayo!" uses multimodal AI and 3D technology to realise an AI idol's voice, facial expressions and movements.
The commission and KCA will support investment consultations and promotion for the selected works at ATF to help overseas distribution. The two agencies have been supporting overseas expansion of domestic broadcast content using AI technology since 2024.
