Tesla HW3-to-HW4 self-swap draws attention despite company warnings
A private modification showing a Tesla HW3 self-driving computer swapped for the newer HW4 has fueled interest in whether Tesla will pursue official upgrades for existing vehicles. Polish Model 3 owner Michal Gapinski said the work required only light ECU hacking and basic hardware fixing, though full functionality has not been achieved. Waymo and Tesla have again squared off over self-driving technology after Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov said cameras alone cannot achieve full autonomous-driving safety. Uber denied renewed speculation of a split with Waymo and said cooperation continues, as Waymo fully opened its robotaxi service in Dallas. China moved to set national safety standards for Level 3 and 4 autonomous vehicles, and Nvidia released a self-driving AI model for free.

Tesla FSD not only faster on HW4; older HW3 improves 36.6 percent
Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving software significantly improved response times to an unexpected pedestrian scenario even on the same in-car computer, a test showed. HW4 with FSD v14.3.4 was the quickest at 0.450 seconds. On HW3, FSD v14 Lite responded in 0.675 seconds, while older FSD v12.6.4 took 1.065 seconds. The comparison suggests performance depends on software as well as hardware, though it is not enough to judge overall safety.
