Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron accused of colluding on RAM prices; lawsuit unlikely to end \'RAM crunch\'
A lawsuit has been filed alleging Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron deliberately reduced supply of consumer memory to push up RAM prices. The suit argues the companies shifted DRAM capacity from mainstream products such as DDR3 and DDR4 to high-bandwidth memory used in AI data centres, creating shortages and higher prices. The key issue is whether the three coordinated the move. The article says proving collusion in court may be difficult and a legal battle is unlikely to stabilise prices soon.

Meta develops \'Vistara\' chip technology to reuse memory from older servers
Meta has developed a technology called Vistara that removes DDR4 memory from older servers and installs it in new servers, using its own CXL chip to share memory between applications without latency problems, The Register reported. A Meta paper said about 40% of its servers, or millions of machines, cannot expand memory. Meta said the approach cut incidents of work stopping due to memory shortages by 33%.

PC memory price rises may ease as Asus sees smaller hikes, SK Hynix DDR5 output seen rising
A surge in PC memory prices in the first half may lose momentum in the second half, a forecast said. Asus expects any additional price increases to be limited to the single digits after earlier steep rises, citing stabilising memory and storage costs and weaker tolerance for further big hikes. Markets are also watching whether SK Hynix may slow HBM output growth and raise production of commodity DRAM, potentially easing shortages and price pressure for consumer DDR5 memory.
