MSIT says K-AI models spread to vehicle manufacturing, office, SMEs and public cities

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT on Sunday released the 10th instalment of its \"K-AI model on-site expansion\" series, introducing industrial use cases of domestic AI models. The ministry included examples from SK Telecom, LG AI Research, NC AI and Upstage. SK Telecom plans on-site trials at an auto parts maker. LG AI Research and Hancom will expand cooperation in AI office services. NC AI will support AI adoption by small firms. Okeystro will build public-sector generative AI services and join an AI pilot city project.

240 trillion won to flow into Chungcheong as Samsung and SK roll out investment plans

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix on Wednesday announced large investment plans for South Korea’s Chungcheong region, totalling 240 trillion won. Samsung said it will invest about 140 trillion won in areas including advanced displays, high-bandwidth memory fabs, next-generation batteries and AI server package substrates, aiming to create 250,000 jobs. SK Hynix said it will invest 100 trillion won in Cheongju, citing a need to expand NAND supply and strengthen advanced packaging.

Samsung Electronics to reshape future industry portfolio with region-specific clusters

Samsung plans to reorganise its future industry portfolio into four regional clusters, centred on a Seoul metropolitan semiconductor hub and additional bases in Honam, Chungcheong and Yeongnam. The company said it will invest a total of 2,655 trillion won domestically to foster cutting-edge future industries. Spending includes 2,030 trillion won for the capital region’s chip cluster and 625 trillion won for AI semiconductors, robots, batteries and IT components and materials in other regions.
