VerifiedX launches Butterfly cryptocurrency payment app

Bitcoin-based layer 1 blockchain VerifiedX has launched Butterfly, an app that supports cryptocurrency payments, Coindesk reported on Jan. 20. Coindesk said the app removes complexity around existing crypto wallets while helping users avoid high exchange fees. VerifiedX developed Butterfly with Crypto.com, Moonpay and Blockdaemon. Users can send transfers for 1 cent and can cancel payments sent to the wrong address with a reversal feature.

Vitalik Buterin calls to simplify Ethereum staking, proposes distributed validator

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed introducing distributed validator technology directly into the Ethereum protocol to simplify staking and strengthen security, CoinDesk reported on Jan. 21. DVT allows validators to run across multiple machines and distribute keys for joint signing. Buterin said existing DVT solutions are complex to set up and maintain. His proposal would support group validators and recognise actions only when signature thresholds are met.

South Korean stocks make history as KOSPI touches 5,000

South Korea's KOSPI index touched the 5,000 mark, a level long seen as a milestone, about three months after first breaking 4,000 in late October. The benchmark briefly rose to a record 5,016.73 before ending the session at 4,952.53, up 42.60 points. Foreign and institutional investors were net sellers, while retail investors were net buyers. Semiconductor shares led gains, while automakers fell.
