Kakao Games said on March 30 it received an AAA rating, the top grade, for a second straight year in the ESG assessment conducted by global environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings firm Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).

MSCI’s ESG assessment evaluates key issues each year for listed companies worldwide and assigns one of seven grades from AAA to CCC.

Kakao Games received an AAA rating across all ESG areas this year. It marked a second straight year at the top grade.

In the environmental category, it analysed climate risks under the standards of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and obtained ISO 14001, an international standard certification for environmental management systems.

In the social category, it advanced its policies on personal data protection and user rights protection and overhauled its security management system. In governance, it built a companywide risk management system and operated an internal audit organisation.

A Kakao Games official said, "Earning the top grade for a second straight year is the result of continuing ESG management in the global market." The official added, "We will continue to strengthen ESG management in line with global standards."
