Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister at the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited Shinhan Bank’s Gwangju Financial Center on Monday. He attended the opening ceremony of “Shinhan Hakijae Gwangju,” a digital finance education centre, and encouraged officials.
Shinhan Hakijae Gwangju, which opened this time, is an education centre that embodies in space the meaning of the first sentence of the “Xue Er” chapter in Confucius’ Analects: “Is it not a pleasure, having learned something, to try it out at due intervals?” It offers, free of charge, hands-on experiences with digital devices in daily life and education to prevent harm from financial crimes affecting livelihoods, such as voice phishing, for digitally excluded groups including seniors.
The ministry operates AI Digital Learning Centres, which provide various skills training for people who struggle with AI and digital technologies, from smartphones to ways to use generative AI. It has continuously cooperated with Shinhan Bank, including designating Shinhan Hakijae Incheon in 2024 as one of the hub centres of the AI Digital Learning Centre programme.
Ryu said, “The Ministry of Science and ICT will also continue policy support, including customised AI and digital education through AI Digital Learning Centres, based on close cooperation between the government and the private sector.”
