China\'s big tech accelerates move away from Nvidia even as H200 availability floated
China\'s big tech companies said they will step up production and adoption of their own AI chips this year, accelerating localisation of key AI infrastructure parts even as a possible return by Nvidia to China is being discussed. Tencent and Alibaba outlined plans to expand use of China-designed semiconductors and in-house chips. Nvidia hits record high after approval to sell H200 to China, surpasses silver by market cap
Nvidia shares hit a record $236.46 after the U.S. government approved sales of H200 chips to about 10 Chinese companies, including Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and JD.com. The move could partially reopen top-tier AI chip sales in China after October 2023 export controls. Lenovo and Foxconn were approved as distributors. Nvidia’s market value rose to $5.52 trillion, overtaking silver as the world’s second-largest asset.

OpenAI urges creation of global AI governance body
OpenAI has proposed regulating artificial intelligence at a level comparable to nuclear power and urged the United States to lead the creation of a global AI governance body. The proposal came as U.S.-China discussions on AI policy were expected during U.S. President Donald Trump\'s visit to Beijing, Cryptopolitan reported. OpenAI also outlined an international network linking U.S. and national AI safety agencies and called for mandatory testing before deploying the strongest AI models.
