[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] The U.S. Commerce Department has partially eased restrictions on Anthropic’s AI model Mythos5, Axios reported on June 27 local time.
Axios reported this, citing a June 26 letter Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sent to Anthropic.
According to the letter, as assessments emerged that Anthropic’s cooperation with the government has made “significant progress,” the Commerce Department concluded that appropriate safeguards were in place after evaluating the risk of diversion through model workarounds.
As a result, the letter said licenses are no longer required for the export, re-export and in-country transfer of the Mythos5 model to the entities specified in the letter and their foreign employees, as well as foreign employees at Anthropic. Export controls remain in place for all organisations that are not explicitly approved.
Restrictions on Fable5 were not changed in the letter. Lutnick said he “reserves the right to reassess and adjust the scope of licensing requirements if circumstances change,” adding that the list of entities with access can be changed “at any time.”
