South Korea, Canada expand cooperation in AI, quantum and other advanced technologies

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said it held the fifth South Korea-Canada Joint Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation with Canada\'s foreign ministry in Seoul over two days from Oct. 29. The meeting reviewed cooperation results marking the 10th anniversary of their bilateral agreement and discussed ways to expand ties in emerging technologies. The two sides shared policies on AI, quantum and bio and examined joint research using AI.

KakaoGames holds Han River otter conservation trip with employees and families

KakaoGames held a programme for employees and their families at the Jungnangcheon Environmental Center in Nowon district, Seoul, on Oct. 18. About 30 people, including CEO Kim Tae-hwan, took part. Experts from WWF and the centre provided environmental education on otters, the Han River ecosystem and biodiversity conservation. Participants also made seed balls and joined hands-on activities. The company also ran an otter-themed donation event and gave 30 million won to WWF.

Bio-friendly ice composite developed by Israeli researchers is as strong as concrete

Israeli researchers have developed a new ice composite that is about 10 times stronger in compression than ordinary ice and resists sudden breakage. The material, called BioPykrete, combines a cellulose nanocrystal network formed during directional freezing with a fusion protein that bonds ice and the network at a molecular level. Tests on small cylindrical samples showed higher strength and far greater energy absorption, suggesting potential use as polar construction material, though durability testing is still needed.
