Kim In-su (김인수), head of SKT's AI Board team, briefs on AX progress at SK Telecom's talent development institute in Icheon

SK Telecom is redesigning organisation-wide work processes and collaboration around AI. It aims to resolve problems that arise during AI adoption, including data access, system integration and security, and to raise company-wide productivity.

SKT said on Saturday it is pursuing “AX Innovation 2.0” with a core direction of moving “from individuals to the organisation, from convenience to practicality.”

AX Innovation 2.0 focuses on overcoming a so-called “AX J-curve” plateau, in which work efficiency temporarily declines early in AI adoption before productivity rises as organisations and work systems are put in order.

AI agents used regularly reach 1,500... company-wide AX support system built

SKT has been spreading a culture in which employees develop AI agents themselves and use them in their work this year. More than 4,000 employees have created AI agents so far. About 1,500 AI agents are used regularly inside the company.

SKT is running three programmes - the “AX Enabler TF”, “AX Sandbox” and “AX Catalyst” - to expand individual AI use into organisation-level innovation.

The AX Enabler TF is an organisation that resolves issues arising in the AI-use process, such as data access, security and system integration, at a company-wide level. It is also pushing to refine related systems, including introducing an employee-number system and an evaluation framework for AI agents.

The AX Sandbox is a programme that redesigns existing work around AI. In the first half, it ran an experiment in a service development organisation in which one employee worked with an AI agent from planning through development and verification. In the second half, it will expand to company-wide organisations to explore collaboration methods between people and AI agents.

The AX Catalyst is a system that supports employees who lead AI use in the field. Ten first-term catalysts selected in September will share AI agents they developed and their usage experience, and take on the role of identifying technical and institutional issues that hinder company-wide AI transformation.

Developing technology to protect sensitive information... strengthening the foundation for using AI in work

SKT is also developing technology to support data security and AI use. It has developed “Z.E.Z (Zero Exposure Zone)” technology, which allows work to be processed without directly exposing sensitive original data to AI, and has applied for a patent. The method manages original data such as personal information in a separate area and provides AI only with necessary processing results such as metadata and calculated values.

It has also set up a “Data Desk” to help AI agents easily grasp the meaning of data. It automatically generates descriptions and business context for various data to support AI in finding and using needed information.

In addition, it is 추진 a “Work Map” that identifies an organisation’s work flows based on work materials and goals and finds tasks suitable for AI application. It plans to establish standard work procedures in which people and AI work together through this effort.

An SKT official said, “It is a process of creating a work environment where employees and AI agents work together to break through the valley of the AX J-curve.” The official said the company will organically connect a voluntary culture of AI use with a company-wide support system to spread the results of AX innovation across the organisation.
