MSIT to draw up five-year national R&D investment strategy, holds public hearing

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it held a public hearing on Thursday in Seoul to prepare a draft second national mid- to long-term R&D investment strategy for 2026 to 2030. The plan is a top-level statutory blueprint setting strategic goals and directions for national R&D budget investment over the next five years. The ministry said it will refine the strategy based on feedback and finalise it in August after review by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council.

South Korea to invest over 200 trillion won in R&D by 2030, secure 260,000 GPUs

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it finalised its Sixth Basic Plan for Science and Technology for 2026 to 2030 after approval by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. The plan calls for investing more than 200 trillion won in government R&D over five years and spreading an AI shift across the country. It includes securing 260,000 public-private GPUs, building a sixth supercomputer and a national AI computing centre, and focusing over 60 trillion won on 10 strategic technology fields.

National Science and Technology Advisory Council to accept public proposals for science and technology agenda from June

South Korea\'s presidential National Science and Technology Advisory Council said on May 31 that from June anyone can propose science and technology advisory agenda items through its website. The council, chaired by the president, is the top decision-making body in the science and technology field. It reviews items including presidential advice on development strategies and systems, mid- to long-term policy and technology 확보 strategies, and improvements to national R&D systems and budget allocation.
