Park In-kyu (박인규), head of the science and technology innovation office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, held a meeting on Monday with members drafting the sixth basic plan for science and technology (2026 to 2030) and shared key policy directions.
The ministry announced an "R&D ecosystem innovation plan" last November through a public address hosted by the president to create an environment in which researchers can focus on challenging research. It appointed about 90 industry, academia and research institute experts as drafting members. It prepared a draft basic plan after a kickoff meeting chaired by the deputy prime minister in January, followed by a steering committee, eight subcommittee meetings and a series of on-site relay meetings.
At Monday’s meeting, participants shared the main policy directions and tasks that were drawn up. The draft basic plan will go through a public hearing on May 28, then be finalized after deliberation and approval by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council in June.
Park said it would organically link the national mid- to long-term investment strategy for state R&D with the basic plan for science and technology talent, centered on the basic plan. He said it would continuously strengthen innovation in the research environment and support systems to ensure the Lee Jae-myung government’s leap in science and technology.
