The Planning and Budget Office, the National Economic Advisory Council and the National Science and Technology Advisory Council said on Tuesday they will hold a joint seminar on Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Ambassador Seoul on the theme, "2045 Mid- to Long-Term National Development Strategy and Walking with the Next Generation."

The seminar will look ahead to the opportunities and challenges South Korea will face as it approaches 2045, the 100th anniversary of liberation. It will discuss mid- to long-term development directions in the economy and society, and in science and technology. It will also review expected technological changes over the next 20 years and their economic and social impact, and examine national tasks so the next generation can find new growth opportunities.

The seminar will feature 3 presentations and a panel discussion. Yong-seok Seo (서용석), a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Graduate School of Future Strategy, will present on "Turning ultra-gap technologies into opportunities for young people: a national strategy to rebuild the ladder of first experiences."

Seung-yeon Won (원승연), a professor in the School of Business Administration at Myongji University, will then present "A strategy for a new economic and social paradigm that walks with future generations." Mi-ru Kim (김미루), head of KDI’s Macroeconomic and Financial Policy Research Division, will introduce "Key research content for establishing a 2045 mid- to long-term national development strategy."

The panel discussion will be co-chaired by Sung-sik Kim (김성식), vice chair of the National Economic Advisory Council, and Kyung-soo Lee (이경수), vice chair of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. They will be joined by Ga-young Kim (김가영), secretary general of the Korean University Students Quantum Society, Seung-hoon Yang (양승훈), a professor in the Department of Sociology at Kyungnam University, Min-jung Lee (이민정), an associate research fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), and Min-chul Choi (최민철), head of the Industrial Innovation Policy Research Office at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET), along with the presenters.
