South Korea's presidential National Science and Technology Advisory Council said on May 31 that from June anyone can propose science and technology advisory agenda items through its website.

The National Science and Technology Advisory Council, chaired by the president, is the top decision-making body in the science and technology field. It is responsible for reviewing items including presidential advice on science and technology development strategies and systems, mid- to long-term policy and technology 확보 strategies, and improvements to national research and development systems and budget allocation.

The public proposal initiative is aimed at spreading science and technology advisory agenda items, which have been discussed mainly by experts, into citizens' daily lives. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by advisory members and used to help select science and technology advisory agenda items to be reported to the president in the future.

Lee Kyung-soo (이경수), vice chair of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council, said: "We ask for the strong interest and participation of the public so that the National Science and Technology Advisory Council can lead science and technology advances that citizens can directly experience, beyond the realm of experts."
