Game makers expand AI strategy from production efficiency to physical AI

Korean game companies are expanding their artificial intelligence strategies beyond improving game production efficiency into physical AI, increasing cooperation with outside firms in robotics, autonomous driving, defence, manufacturing and shipbuilding. NC AI is focusing on a world model to narrow the simulation-to-real gap and has won national projects and industry contracts with Hyundai Rotem, POSCO DX and Hanwha Ocean. Krafton is pairing its AI software with industrial data partners, joining projects with Hanwha Aerospace and Socar.

South Korea to press ahead with facial authentication for mobile phone activation, distributors still burdened

South Korea is set to introduce facial authentication for mobile phone activations in July, a month away, but market unease remains. The Ministry of Science and ICT extended pilot operations to June 30 after industry pushback and has tested alternative methods such as PIN verification in a mobile ID app, video calls and fingerprint or iris checks. The National Human Rights Commission and the Personal Information Protection Commission have urged improvements, while distributors warn of delays, complaints and unclear accountability.

Mirae Asset Management to inject 50 billion won more into Mirae Asset Life

Mirae Asset Management will make an additional 50 billion won capital injection into affiliate Mirae Asset Life Insurance as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening governance and expanding financial synergies within the group. The company said it decided on the additional investment in Mirae Asset Life common shares and disclosed it on May 19. The investment follows completion of funds announced on March 13 and will be carried out through on-exchange purchases from May to December 2026.
