Korea to merge Kobaco and KCMF after bill clears parliamentary committee
A bill to merge the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp (Kobaco) and the Korea Communications Media Foundation (KCMF) to create the Korea Broadcasting Media Communications Promotion Institute has passed the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee. The committee approved amendments including a revision to the Framework Act on Broadcasting and Communications Development. Some broadcasting, media and communications projects scattered across related agencies under the Ministry of Science and ICT would be transferred to the new body.

Three PP groups launch joint response to boost small PP advertising
Three programme provider (PP) industry groups will jointly respond to expand the advertising market for small PPs. The PP council of the Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association, the Korea Broadcasting Channel Operator Association and the Korea Broadcasting Channel Promotion Association signed an MOU on Sept. 8. They plan to pursue the digital transition of broadcast advertising, develop new ad models, launch joint projects and seek policy and institutional improvements. The pact runs for 3 years.

BMC appoints Ko Min-su as first vice chair
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission held its 29th plenary meeting on Aug. 21 and elected standing commissioner Ko Min-su as its first vice chair. Ko, born in 1970, studied law at Yonsei University and earned master\'s and doctoral degrees there. He has worked as a reporter and held posts at government bodies, and later taught at Gangneung-Wonju National University and Kangwon National University. His term runs until March 31, 2029.
