Cable TV industry seeks role in \'media basic society,\' releases open letter to president

South Korea\'s cable TV industry, facing management difficulties amid the growth of OTT and IPTV, is positioning itself as a partner in the government\'s \"media basic society\" initiative. It pledged to strengthen local residents\' right to know, expand universal media access through a unified \"Everyone\'s TV\" brand for 8VSB services, and narrow the AI gap through local education programmes. The industry also urged regulatory and institutional changes, including over broadcasting development fund levies.

Korea broadcast watchdog to back overseas push for 11 AI-powered TV content titles

South Korea\'s Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Broadcasting and Communications Commission and KCA selected 11 domestic broadcast content titles using AI technology for an overseas distribution support programme. The selected works will be introduced to overseas investors at the Asia TV Forum & Market in Singapore on Dec. 3-5. The lineup includes four AI-based production support titles and seven AI-assisted planning programmes. The agencies will support investment consultations and promotion at ATF.

MSIT, BMCC to step up policy coordination, speed up Korea broadcast media telecom promotion agency

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcasting Media Communications Commission are strengthening policy coordination in areas including AI, media, digital regulation and user protection. The two agencies held their first working-level meeting on Sept. 17 to follow up on a senior-level policy consultation. They will jointly discuss the planned Korea Broadcast Media Telecommunications Promotion Agency, terrestrial UHD policy and user protection in cybersecurity incidents, and cooperate on an evaluation system for incident-related user protection from 2027.
