The Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission said on May 15 it approved a plan to select groups to nominate directors for public broadcasters and will hold an open call for applications from May 18 to May 26.
The commission held its 10th plenary meeting of 2026 and approved a plan to select groups that will nominate directors for KBS, EBS and the Broadcasting Culture Promotion Association. It is a follow-up measure to the revised Broadcasting 3 Acts and the commission rules revised on May 13.
The selection will cover 15 groups in total. For each broadcaster, it must form five director-nominating groups, including three academic societies related to broadcasting and media and two lawyers' groups. Each group may also be nominated more than once.
The commission will later form a screening panel of experts in each field and conduct an overall review of each group's representativeness, expertise and public-interest activities before selecting the final nominating groups.
It will also hold a briefing at 10 a.m. on May 18 at the Korea Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Seoul. It plans to guide academic societies and groups preparing to apply on relevant laws and rules and how to prepare documents.
