SpaceX orbital data centre plan may need up to 42 launches a day

SpaceX\'s plan for an orbital data centre envisioned as future AI infrastructure is technically feasible, but major obstacles remain before commercialisation, an analysis said. The biggest challenge is building an unprecedented satellite constellation and launch system. The concept includes operating 1 million satellites producing 120 GW and using tens of millions to 100 million GPUs. Analysts cited heavy satellite mass, cooling limits in space, huge manufacturing and network costs, and communications latency as constraints.

Nvidia stumbles in market it helped build as shares fall 15 percent while memory stocks triple

Nvidia has been seen as a top beneficiary of the artificial intelligence investment boom but has struggled in recent months, with its shares down 15 percent from a May peak, according to Bloomberg. Over the same period, Micron’s market value has nearly tripled as memory becomes a new bottleneck in data-centre expansion. Spot prices for DRAM have surged since 2023, while hourly spot prices for Nvidia H100 compute have fallen over the past year.

ByteDance targets mass production of in-house AI CPU by 2027 to cut GPU reliance

TikTok owner ByteDance is accelerating development of a next-generation in-house central processing unit as AI services drive a surge in computing demand. It is seeking to reduce reliance on external GPUs and raise the share of its own semiconductors. The company aims to complete the CPU design by early 2027 and begin mass production and internal deployment in the second half of that year. It is also working with Qualcomm and seeking foundry capacity.
