DoublesAI, an Israeli startup backed by Nvidia, is set to unveil an AI model that cuts companies' computing costs, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Oct. 19.

The company was founded by Amnon Shashua (암논 샤슈아), co-founder of self-driving company Mobileye and its CEO. It has received $220 million in investment so far from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Nvidia and Dell, among others, the report said.

DoublesAI is presenting its technology as a new AI category called a code execution model, or CEM.

Unlike large language models, CEMs operate on their own inside running programs without human intervention and find ways to run code more efficiently, the WSJ reported.

Its first product, Maxwell, supports efforts to address surging computing costs by boosting GPU and CPU performance. According to data analysis firm SemiAnalysis, the hourly cost of renting an Nvidia H100 chip on a one-year contract rose 60 percent over the past year. "If you use hardware better, you can achieve amazing cost savings," Shashua said.

DoublesAI takes part of customers' savings as a fee. The company said one early customer cut computing costs by 67 percent. AI company LTX doubled model inference speed with Maxwell, the WSJ reported.

Maxwell will be supplied in earnest from late October. Shashua said large AI research and development companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic are expected to benefit the most. He said those companies can save hundreds of millions of dollars even if they cut computing costs by 10 percent.

DoublesAI used about half of its funding to buy 1,000 Nvidia B300 chips. "Prices are rising, so we cannot rely only on renting computing resources," Shashua said.
