KT conducts special network inspections ahead of World Cup opener

KT said on Monday it has set up a telecom quality inspection and response system in major crowded areas where cheering is expected ahead of South Korea’s first World Cup match on June 12. The company conducted advance checks around Gwanghwamun Square, City Hall Square and Yeongdong-daero in Gangnam, and prepared network operation measures for higher traffic. It will apply W-SDN technology, deploy mobile base stations and conduct 24-hour monitoring.

KT to host World Cup street viewing in Gwanghwamun, expand customer benefits

KT will hold 2026 World Cup street-viewing events at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on June 12, 19 and 25 with the Red Devils and the Korea Football Association. Working with JTBC, it will broadcast South Korea’s World Cup qualifiers live on two large media walls at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West. KT will also run promotions through July 19, offering cheering goods, prize draws and sign-up events for customers.

Netflix livestreamed BTS\' comeback concert at Seoul\'s Gwanghwamun Square and said 18.4 million viewers watched worldwide that day. The show was carried exclusively to more than 190 countries and regions, and Netflix said it ranked in weekly top 10 lists in 80 countries and was No. 1 in 24. Viewers reported buffering, freezes, low video quality, delayed subtitles and frequent audience shots, raising questions about unicast streaming limits during traffic spikes.
