Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission accepts applications for 2027-2028 public interest and disability welfare channels
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission is starting procedures to select public interest channels and recognise disability welfare channels for 2027-2028. It will accept applications from programme providers until Sept. 30. Selected and recognised channels will be valid from April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2029. Pay-TV operators must carry at least one channel in each category. The commission will hold a briefing on Aug. 25 and review applications through an expert panel.

Google cuts Google Play fees in South Korea to as low as 10 percent, expands in-app and external payments
Google will expand payment options for Google Play developers in South Korea and cut service fees to as low as 10 percent. Developers can offer alternative payment systems or link users to external websites, subject to Google safety requirements. A 10 percent fee applies to the first $1 million of annual revenue generated on Google Play and to auto-renewing subscriptions. The changes take effect in South Korea on Dec. 31.

MegazoneCloud said on Aug. 10 it has launched an education programme for teenagers interested in technology. The company held the first Global Tech Youth Leadership Forum from Aug. 5 to Aug. 7 at its Megazone Industry-Academia-Research Center in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, for middle and high school children of employees. The course covered AI and cloud careers, leadership, generative AI practice and AI-based social problem-solving projects.
