SK hynix said on Sept. 17 it will pay about 304.7 billion won early for deliveries from partner companies ahead of the Chuseok holiday. It said bringing forward payments during periods of concentrated funding demand such as major holidays is a step to ease suppliers' liquidity burdens. It added that the move reflects an aim to provide support that can be felt on the ground, alongside institutional support.
SK hynix has continued to provide support in finance and business operations, including improved payment terms. In July, it also announced a plan to strengthen support for semiconductor materials, parts and equipment suppliers by using 1.4 trillion won in shared-growth funds over the next 5 years.
It is also operating technology support programmes. They include an "R&D Challenge Reward System" for partner companies that have technical capabilities but face financial burdens, and an "IPR Sharing Support Center" that shares patents with suppliers. At the Yongin semiconductor cluster, it plans to build a "Trinity Fab" to conduct joint research, development and verification with suppliers and open it from 2027.
An appreciation event for supplier employees and their families is also planned. SK hynix will invite about 30,000 people, including about 8,000 employees from around 130 partner companies and their families, to "ThanksFULL Day" on Oct. 15 at Seoul Land in Gwacheon. Executives including Cha Seon-yong (차선용), head of the Future Technology Research Institute and chief technology officer, and Lee Byeong-gi (이병기), head of mass production and chief production officer, will greet attendees on site, and CEO Kwak will also visit the venue to offer thanks.
Kwak said, "Partner companies are valuable companions that together build the competitiveness of K-semiconductors, and SK hynix's achievements also could not have been made without the efforts of partner company employees who have worked hard together on the ground." He said, "At the same time as I convey sincere thanks to employees and their families, we will continue practical support so that partner companies can enhance their technological competitiveness and grow steadily."
