The eighth-term South-North Broadcasting and Telecommunications Exchange Promotion Committee, which discusses policies on inter-Korean broadcasting and telecom exchanges and cooperation, has been launched.

The Broadcasting Media Communications Commission held an appointment ceremony for members of the eighth-term committee and its first meeting on Oct. 28 at the Government Complex Gwacheon.

The committee reviews the basic direction and major policy initiatives for South-North broadcasting and telecommunications exchanges and cooperation. The eighth-term panel comprises 16 people, including private-sector experts in broadcasting, media, telecommunications and inter-Korean relations, as well as government officials, and will operate for the next 2 years.

At the first meeting, it discussed the committee's operating plan and inter-Korean broadcasting and telecommunications exchange and cooperation projects by each agency. The commission plans to review the opinions presented by members and reflect them in future directions and related policies for promoting South-North broadcasting and telecommunications exchanges and cooperation.

Ko Min-su (고민수), the commission's vice chairman and the committee's chairman, said, "Even as uncertainty in inter-Korean relations persists, we will continue to identify effective tasks so that we can prepare for the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in the future."
