LG Uplus is moving toward shutting down its U+Mobiletv service, effectively ending the era of homegrown OTT services by South Korea’s three mobile carriers. The industry is shifting away from standalone OTT platforms and toward IPTV-led strategies that link existing IPTV subscriber bases with mobile services. SK Telecom and KT have already wound down their own OTT services, while carriers focus on companion apps, integration features and content investment to strengthen competitiveness.

KT said on Wednesday it was ranked No. 1 in mobile communications, high-speed internet and IPTV in this year’s Korea Brand Power Index survey, marking a second straight year of sweeping the categories. The company said it expanded subscriber-focused offerings and everyday benefits, enhanced AI-based spam blocking and voice-phishing detection, and strengthened security services for broadband. It also introduced WiFi 7 and added an LLM-based AI agent to Genie TV.
