KT said on Monday it has launched "AI local information," which delivers regional policy and event information in video form by upgrading Genie TV's "Local Benefits Plus" service.
Local Benefits Plus is a service that provides information on nearby restaurants and lifestyle convenience facilities, as well as health and education-related stores and coupon benefits, based on the area where a set-top box is installed.
The newly introduced AI local information restructures major policy and event information disclosed on local governments' official websites into video, voice and subtitle content using KT's in-house AI technology. It selects information needed by local residents and produces videos of about 1 minute. It schedules the content by region in Local Benefits Plus on the Genie TV home menu and on service number 111.
Users can check local information through TV, and local governments can deliver policy and event information to residents without building a separate platform.
KT is also running an event to mark the launch through Aug. 3. Users can enter by watching AI local information videos on Genie TV's Local Benefits Plus and then applying via the QR code shown on the screen. KT will provide prizes to 116 winners by lottery, including Dyson vacuum cleaners and gift certificates from Baedal Minjok, Market Kurly and Mega Coffee.
KT currently provides information for 16 metropolitan-level local governments. In the second half of this year, it plans to introduce products that support AI content production and locally tailored transmission for city, county and district-level local governments and public institutions.
Kim Byung-jin (김병진), an executive director at KT's Media Business Division, said Local Benefits Plus is a media platform that delivers local information easily and intuitively based on AI technology. He said it will improve customers' access to information and provide local governments with an effective channel for policy promotion.
