GM weighs dropping Android Auto across all models as carmakers vie for software control

General Motors may extend its decision to exclude Android Auto from electric vehicles to all models, a report said. The move reflects a broader shift by automakers away from smartphone-based infotainment toward in-house software and AI-driven platforms. GM is strengthening its own vehicle software ecosystem and plans a conversational interface based on Google’s Gemini model. Many 2026 models still support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but consumer backlash remains a risk.
