[DigitalToday reporter Jae-won Choi (최재원)] Google is adding a personalized information feature to Gemini for cars. Drivers will be able to find schedules and locations and receive navigation with voice commands, without checking emails or photos themselves.

On Oct. 20 (local time), IT outlet The Verge reported that Google will roll out Personal Intelligence to Android Auto in stages starting that day. It plans to apply it to Google Built-in vehicles, which have Google software embedded, within the next few months.

Personal Intelligence provides personalized answers by using information from services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search that users allow it to connect to. For example, if a user asks while heading to the airport, "Where is my flight gate, and is it departing on time?" it finds flight details from a reservation confirmation email in Gmail and also provides the current operating status.

Destination searches will also become easier. If a user says, "Navigate me to where my hospital appointment is," it checks the location in a personal schedule and starts navigation. If a user asks, "Take me to the car wash from the photos I took last week," it can also find relevant photos in Google Photos and set the destination.

Another feature is combining information spread across multiple apps. It works by recommending restaurants along a route by considering a user's preferences for a restaurant they often visited, or by finding again a cafe that was discussed before.

Users must choose whether to connect personal data. Personal Intelligence is disabled by default and can be turned on or off in Gemini settings.

In Google Built-in vehicles in particular, personalized answers are provided only when the user's phone is connected. Even without enabling the feature, standard navigation, music playback, calling and question answering will remain available.

Google introduced Gemini to Android Auto last year, then expanded its application in April this year to Google Built-in vehicles.

The personalization feature will be provided in stages to eligible personal Google accounts for users aged 18 and older. Some regions, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Nigeria, are excluded from the initial launch.
