[DigitalToday reporter Hyunwoo Choo (추현우)] Renault Group's Romanian car brand Dacia has moved production of the second-generation Spring electric car from China to Slovenia. It kept the Italian starting price at 17,900 euros. The top Journey trim also does not exceed 20,000 euros, InsideEV reported on Monday.

The new Spring is a full redesign, not a facelift. The previous Spring was based on an architecture linked to the Renault Kwid, a low-cost internal combustion car designed for the Indian market. The new model shares a platform with the Renault Twingo E-Tech. Dacia developed the new Spring in less than 2 years.

The body is larger. Overall length is 3.85 metres, 15 cm longer than the previous model, and width is 18 cm wider. Interior space has also increased.

The powertrain consists of a single front-mounted motor and a 27.5 kWh LFP battery. Maximum power is about 80 horsepower and peak torque is 175 Nm. The battery capacity is based on real-world use. Under the WLTP standard, the maximum range per charge is up to 250 km, shorter than the Renault Twingo E-Tech's 263 km. Power consumption is 12.7 kWh per 100 km.

It takes 12.1 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km per hour, and top speed is 130 km per hour. Dacia said the previous Spring's drivers average about 34 km a day and 75 percent of charging is done at home.

Charging specifications are optional. The standard 6.6 kW onboard charger charges the battery from 15 percent to 80 percent in 2 hours 55 minutes using a 7 kW home wallbox. With the optional 11 kW charger, the same charge window takes 1 hour 55 minutes based on a three-phase wallbox with sufficient output. DC fast charging is not standard and takes 28 minutes from 15 percent to 80 percent at up to 50 kW.

The base Expression trim includes manual air conditioning, rear parking sensors, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a smartphone-based multimedia system. There is no central display. The Journey adds a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear camera and keyless entry.
