Broadcast Media Telecommunications Review Committee appoints Song Yohun as first secretary general
The Broadcast Media Telecommunications Review Committee said on April 15 it appointed former MBC reporter Song Yohun as its first secretary general, effective April 16. Song, born in 1961, joined MBC as a newsroom reporter after graduating from Deoksu Commercial High School and Chung-Ang University, where he studied business administration. At MBC he held posts including head of the reporters' association and several newsroom leadership roles, and later served at Arirang International Broadcasting.

2026 Cable TV Broadcast Awards held, 52 people honoured
The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association held the 2026 Cable TV Broadcast Awards on Tuesday at Hotel Naru MGallery in Seoul, presenting awards to a total of 52 people. Marking its 20th year, the event is the country’s only integrated awards ceremony for the paid TV industry, spanning system operators and programme providers. Eight programme provider works and nine regional channel works won awards.

Samsung Securities commercial paper business licence again fails to reach FSC agenda
Samsung Securities’ plan to enter the short-term funding business through issuer commercial paper was thrown into uncertainty again after the proposal was not placed on the Financial Services Commission’s regular meeting agenda on April 15. Market expectations had been that the firm could become the country’s eighth licensed issuer once it cleared the meeting. The omission was seen as unusual given past licensing timelines and has revived debate over fairness and the review process.
