BMC appoints Ko Min-su as first vice chair
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission held its 29th plenary meeting on Aug. 21 and elected standing commissioner Ko Min-su as its first vice chair. Ko, born in 1970, studied law at Yonsei University and earned master\'s and doctoral degrees there. He has worked as a reporter and held posts at government bodies, and later taught at Gangneung-Wonju National University and Kangwon National University. His term runs until March 31, 2029.

MSIT launches Gangwon AX shift focusing on healthcare and wellness
South Korea has begun planning a regional AI transition (AX) project to apply AI to Gangwon’s healthcare and wellness industry. The Ministry of Science and ICT said Deputy Prime Minister and MSIT Minister Bae Kyung-hoon attended a launch briefing in Seoul on Aug. 13. The project is part of the government’s “5 poles, 3 specials” regional AX initiative. Planning runs through end-2026, followed by a 2027 pilot and a 2028 full rollout.

South Korea\'s science panel sends protest letter over U.S. House \'Coupang report\'
South Korea’s parliamentary Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee sent a protest letter to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee over a report that assessed a Coupang hearing as a case of discrimination against a U.S. company. The committee said the report largely reflected a specific company’s claims and did not sufficiently capture the hearing’s purpose and procedures. It said the joint hearing was legally held and addressed issues including data leaks and consumer protection.
