[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] The Ministry of Science and ICT will train AI convergence talent needed for the digital healthcare industry by leveraging medical infrastructure in the Wonju area.

The Ministry of Science and ICT held an opening ceremony on Sept. 17 for the AI Convergence Innovation Training Center at Hotel Inter-Burgo Wonju.

The AI Convergence Innovation Training Center is an education hub that links medical infrastructure such as companies and hospitals in Wonju, an advanced medical and health industry special zone, to train AI convergence talent needed on the front lines of the digital healthcare industry. It will train 160 people this year.

Trainees will use domestic medical data and other sources to learn data analysis, medical AI model development and digital healthcare robot control, and build practical capabilities in medical, health and digital healthcare fields. From next year, training specialists with convergence technology capabilities in areas such as medical data and robotics will also be expanded in earnest. The plan is to secure professionals to lead industrial sites and research and development.

It will also 추진 an on-site project program linking companies and universities. If medical companies present on-the-ground difficulties as tasks, regional universities such as Yonsei University Mirae Campus and Kangwon National University will design solutions. It aims to strengthen trainees' practical skills and link them to jobs after completing the program.

Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong (류제명) said he hoped the AI Convergence Innovation Training Center would establish itself as a key hub for training AI convergence talent needed on the front lines of the digital healthcare industry. He said he would actively support Wonju so it can leap forward as a physical AI hub in the medical field.
