Lee Min-hyung (이민형), chief executive of Asteromorph, has filed an objection to a police decision clearing a professor at Yonsei University’s Wonju College of Medicine, identified as Professor A. Lee had filed a complaint against the professor for raising suspicions about his academic and career background. The case was transferred to prosecutors.
Since late May, Professor A raised questions on social media about Lee’s career as a researcher at Seoul National University, his graduate education and how titles were listed in his English biography. Lee’s side began legal action, saying the posts included false information and personal attacks.
Wonju Police Station in Gangwon Province decided on July 26 not to refer Professor A, citing insufficient evidence.
At the time, police were reported to have concluded that an intent to defame Lee privately was not proven, taking into account that the posts raised suspicions about a figure with a public standing.
Lee’s side filed an objection to the non-referral decision, and the case was sent to prosecutors in line with procedures. A transfer following an objection by the complainant is a legal procedure and does not mean the police decision was reversed or that allegations were found to be valid.
Asteromorph said, "At the police investigation stage, there were differences in judgment over whether there was intent to defame privately, so an initial decision was made not to refer the case," adding, "We therefore filed an objection."
