Ruling party science committee holds policy talks on second-half priorities, AI budget, power and network law
Ruling party lawmakers on the National Assembly’s science, ICT, broadcasting and communications committee held closed-door policy talks on July 22 with relevant government agencies. Participants reviewed progress on existing projects for the second half, including space launch vehicles and nuclear power safety issues. Lawmakers also discussed budget constraints for large AI projects such as AI data centres and physical AI, power demand linked to AI expansion and the need to strengthen SMR research and investment.

Deputy Prime Minister Baek Kyung-hoon said his first year in office focused on building a foundation for an AI transition and that it is now time to deliver and prove tangible results. He highlighted progress on a homegrown AI foundation model project and a broader consensus on the need to secure GPUs. The government is pursuing a two-track strategy for domestic and frontier models, preparing a nationwide AI service and advancing plans for data, 6G, R&D and power supply for AI data centres.

KT launches information protection advisory committee to strengthen companywide security
KT said on Saturday it has formed an Information Protection Advisory Committee to improve its security posture and strengthen pre-emptive, prevention-focused information protection governance. The committee includes experts in policy and systems, technology and security, industry and services, and AI and zero trust. It will review KT\'s information protection strategy and key policies and propose responses to future threats, including AI-based attacks and misuse of generative AI, while also examining compliance with network and global regulations.
