Baeg Gyeong-hun (배경훈), deputy prime minister and minister of science and ICT, met Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology Bu Hai Quan in Seoul on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides discussed follow-up steps to implement the "Korea-Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Masterplan Framework" signed in April. The framework focuses on building a package-based cooperation system centred on the Korea-Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST), linking joint research reflecting on-the-ground demand, talent development, dissemination of outcomes and infrastructure support.

The two countries also discussed a follow-up implementation plan to expand science and technology cooperation into technology and industrial innovation and the cultivation of future talent. Baeg stressed that VKIST’s role as a hub for bilateral science and technology cooperation and its stable operation are important.

"I hope VKIST can develop into a hub for science and technology cooperation and establish itself as a full-cycle science and technology innovation cooperation platform for the two countries’ shared prosperity," Baeg said.
