South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting on Wednesday to draw up field-by-field implementation strategies for the "seven SEED projects," with the presidential office and related ministries attending.
The seven SEED projects are a cross-government initiative to foster seven areas as future national growth engines: small modular reactors (SMR), nuclear fusion, renewable energy, quantum, aerospace, advanced bio and advanced supply chains.
The government announced the direction of the project at an August briefing session chaired by the president. It then prepared a cross-ministry 추진 structure and a plan to draw up implementation strategies by area at a September meeting of science and technology-related ministers. The meeting discussed specifying key missions and performance goals by area and ways to link government research and development (R&D) programmes with investment plans.
It also reviewed ways to expand support for demonstration projects and commercialisation so that technology development results can be used at industrial sites, and to use policy tools of related ministries, such as regulatory and institutional improvements.
Based on the discussion, the ministry said it will work with related ministries to draw up implementation strategies by area within the year. It plans to continuously check performance and major issues during the project 추진 process.
Park In-kyu (박인규), head of the Science and Technology Innovation Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said the seven SEED projects are a national joint mission to secure core national strategic assets and next-generation growth engines. He said the government will actively use available policy tools, including prioritised budget allocation, links to commercialisation and resolving regulatory and licensing hurdles, to support the creation of project results.
