Kim Dae-jung elected chair of 3GPP top coordination committee for 2027

Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on Thursday that Kim Dae-jung (김대중), head of its Standardization Headquarters, was elected chair for 2027 of the Project Coordination Group (PCG), the top coordination committee of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). 3GPP develops global technical specifications for mobile communications and is pursuing 6G research. TTA chairman Son Seung-hyun called the appointment encouraging at a key time for 6G standard development.

TTA and Taiwan\'s TAICS step up cooperation on 6G international standardisation

Korea\'s Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said it would strengthen cooperation with Taiwan\'s Telecommunications Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS) on 6G international standardisation. The groups held the eighth TTA-TAICS international joint workshop in Taipei on Oct. 20, and said they would expand standardisation cooperation. Experts from telecom operators, manufacturers, academia and research institutes shared 6G standardisation strategies and directions for key technology development.

Choi Hyuk-jin says NIPA policy-designated budget totals 39.7 billion won over five years, skipped open calls

South Korea\'s science ministry allocated project budgets worth 39.7 billion won through the National IT Industry Promotion Agency over the past five years without public calls, independent lawmaker Choi Hyuk-jin said on Wednesday. Choi said the ministry used a policy-designation method to decide recipients and amounts from 2022 through this year. He said this year\'s 11.08 billion won was concentrated in three organisations and argued the approach could run counter to the open-competition principle under the National Research and Development Innovation Act.
