The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of Korea said on Tuesday that ICT regulatory sandbox pilot-exemption companies ReadyPost and iSciLab have begun international standardisation work at the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).

The standardisation items proposed by the two companies were discussed at an ITU-T Study Group 17 (SG17) meeting on information security held in Chongqing, China, from Sept. 7 to 11.

ReadyPost provides electronic signature consent forms, electronic voting and online general meeting services for members of redevelopment and reconstruction associations. It verified the services through an ICT regulatory sandbox pilot exemption and then commercialised them.

At the meeting, the company proposed a new standardisation item, a "Security Framework for Electronic Document Processing Services", covering security architecture and requirements needed for electronic documents. If the item is finally approved at the SG17 plenary in January 2027, ReadyPost will serve as editor and Professor Jeong-yeon Hwang (황정연) of Sungshin Women's University will participate as co-editor, leading development of the international recommendation "X.sf-edps".

iSciLab has demonstrated an animal registration service using the nose print patterns of dogs and, in November 2023, established the related technology as the ITU-T international standard "X.1095". At this meeting, it proposed guidelines to expand the application scope of the existing standard to individual authentication for livestock such as cattle, horses and sheep, and the proposal was adopted. It included multi-biometrics using nose prints together with facial shape, body patterns and gait, as well as offline authentication requirements that complete verification inside the device without a communications network.

The international standardisation support was carried out through a Ministry of Science and ICT and National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) programme to support international standards development and testing and certification for the AI regulatory sandbox. TTA supported the two companies selected for this year's programme with expert consulting and participation in international meetings.

TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "We will expand the programme so that companies that have completed demonstrations can receive support linked through international standards development and testing and certification."
